Music Videos: How Important Are They?

Do You Remember The Time?

Remember MJ’s “Thriller”, The Prodigy “Smack My Bitch Up”, How about Fat Boy Slim “Weapon Of Choice

Now think about what you really remember. Bet it’s dancing zombies, a female’s POV of a savage night out and Christopher Walken busting some ‘gold watch up my ass‘ kinda moves.

Great Music will always capture audience attention, but a GREAT video will turn even the average of songs into a classic memory, serving up a whole spectrum of new fans that may have otherwise skipped that track.

Streaming For Success

The Online world has skyrocketed Music consumption to an unprecedented stratosphere. That same power has proved even more lucrative with Video Streaming, transforming modest song sales into viral sensations. There is simply no denying the cultural impact PSY’s “Gangnam Style” had, as of 2016 boasting an earth shattering 2.5 Billion plays. PSY’s less memorable follow-up Music Videos barely scraping a fraction of those numbers.

Many Artists have found their fame begin from the Video and than transfer to record sales and radio play. Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” was a monster No.1 hit in a multitude of Global charts, this was without doubt in large part to their low-budget but highly inventive Music Video.

Tech company Cisco states simply “By 2017, video will account for 69% of all consumer internet traffic”.

Can’t argue with those stats.

Brand Is Back: Just Do It?

Don’t be fooled in believing Product Placement is limited to Marvel scale Productions. Quite the opposite, when you consider how much more streamlined the demographics are for Music Videos.

Apple have unquestionably built their mammoth tycoon off the back of clever integration in the Film and Television world, but now consider the dominance of the youth market selling out Beats by Dre because Nicki Minaj rocked one in “Anaconda”. The true beauty is that Online Video can go viral and will be readily watchable for years to come. Years down the line and viewers will still flock to the shops on the press of the play button.

Benefits for Brands is abundant, but what about the humble Artists? Apart from larger traffic and awareness generated from the Partnership itself, many Video Budgets can be elevated just by subtle uses of a Product, allowing larger scope without impacting the creativity of the content.

Looking at you Michael Bay.
